Backflow Prevention & Testing in Farmington
Backflow Testing Backed by Three Generations of Plumbing Experience
We provide backflow prevention and testing for properties with irrigation, commercial plumbing, fire-protection, and other connected systems. Backflow is the unwanted reversal of water that can carry contaminants from a connected system into the potable water supply.
Testing checks whether a backflow prevention assembly operates as intended under pressure. A water authority, inspector, property manager, installation requirement, or other responsible party may request a test.
Call (505) 278-5112 to discuss the backflow device or testing notice for your property.
Which Properties & Systems May Need Backflow Protection?
The correct protection depends on the connection, potential hazard, pressure conditions, and applicable requirements. A property may have more than one assembly, with separate testing or documentation required for each.
Common cross-connection concerns include:
- Lawn irrigation: Sprinkler systems connected to a potable water line may require an appropriate backflow device.
- Commercial plumbing: Equipment, process lines, and other non-potable connections can create cross-connection concerns.
- Fire-protection systems: The required assembly can depend on the system configuration and water conditions.
- Pumps and chemical connections: Added pressure or chemical injection may affect the type of protection required.

Backflow Protection for Farmington Irrigation Systems
The City of Farmington identifies several possible forms of protection for certain residential irrigation systems. These include atmospheric vacuum breakers, pressure vacuum breaker assemblies, spill-resistant pressure vacuum breakers, and reduced-pressure principle assemblies.
The correct device depends on the installation. Systems with pumps, backpressure, or chemical injection may require different protection from those without these conditions. Device selection and testing should reflect the property’s configuration and the rules that apply to that connection. A requirement for one irrigation or commercial system doesn’t establish the same requirement for every property.
Discuss Your Backflow Device or Testing Notice
Contact us if you’ve received a testing notice, are preparing an installation, or need to discuss a backflow prevention assembly. Have the device location, connected system, prior test paperwork, and any notice available so we can better understand your request.
