Getting Your HVAC Unit Ready for the Spring and Summer
Mark J. Biel • April 1, 2020
Are you doing some spring cleaning? If so, don’t forget to change your HVAC system’s air filter while you’re at it. It doesn’t matter how much you clean your home, if the air filters are filthy, dust and other particles will recirculate throughout your home and end up making it dirty again..
In addition to changing the air filter, what can you do to get your home ready for spring as well as the upcoming summer season?
Have Your HVAC Unit Inspected
Always test your HVAC unit before the start of the summer and winter easons. Since spring usually brings mld weather conditions, testing your HVAC unit in the spring might not seem very urgent. However, remember that demand for HVAC contractor services peaks in the summertime when temperatures are usually at their highest. As such, it’s best to schedule an HVAC inspection in the early spring. Neglecting to have your HVAC unit inspected before the cooling season arrives may result in HVAC breakdowns, which is the last thing anyone wants in the middle of summer.
Consider Upgrading Your Unit
A well-maintained but older model of an HVAC unit might struggle to keep indoor temperatures at a comfortable level in the summer. That’s why it’s smart to consider installing a new air conditioning system and HVAC unit, which can cool your home faster while using less energy. In the long term, a more efficient HVAC unit can help lower your household electric bill and reduce your home’s carbon footprint.
Install a Programmable Thermostat
Since you’ll most likely be spending more time outdoors in the spring, a programmable thermostat is a smart investment. You can set programmable thermostats to automatically raise the temperature when you leave the house tto go outside and lower it when you get back in. This optimizes energy usage and maximizes the potential energy savings from a new HVAC unit.
Don’t forget to make sure only an experienced contractor handles your cooling or new heating system installation. After all, HVAC systems are complex machines that require a certain level of expertise to install.
