Common Mistakes That Can Void Your HVAC Warranty
Mark J. Biel • June 15, 2021
Warranties are a must-have for large appliances such as heating and cooling systems. They can protect you from parts and labor expenses when your unit fails or breaks down due to reasons other than normal wear in the given warranty period. However, in order to maintain the validity of your HVAC warranty during the specified period, you have to abide by its terms.
Here R.A. Biel Plumbing & Heating, a trusted HVAC and plumbing repair expert, lists some common mistakes that you should avoid in order to keep your HVAC warranty in effect.
Failure to register your warranty. Keep in mind that some manufacturers require their warranties to be registered within a certain period of time, so to be safe, register your warranty immediately. Otherwise, it’s length of validity might be shortened, or worse, you may lose your warranty altogether.
Improper installation of the HVAC system. Make sure to hire qualified professionals for the installation of your new air conditioning or heating unit. Also, consider their familiarity with the brand and model of your HVAC equipment. It’s best to go with a technician who has experience with the specific type of HVAC system you’re installing. This way, you can rest assured that they know the proper way of doing the installation. Improper installation of an HVAC unit can lead to the system’s failure, and in this case, your warranty won’t be able to cover it.
Use of unauthorized or mismatched parts. HVAC systems are designed to work with a specific set of parts. When you’re replacing certain components of your HVAC system, make sure that you’re getting authorized parts to replace them. A manufacturer can’t offer their warranties to cover parts that are made by another manufacturer, so your HVAC warranty will automatically become void if you use unauthorized parts for repairs or replacement.
