They are also more common than you realize, trusted by both residential and commercial property owners for years.

The Science of Evaporative Cooling

Technically known as “latent heat of evaporation”, evaporative cooling is based on a physical phenomenon where liquid evaporating into surrounding air cools a liquid or object that is in contact with it. Think of it like how sweating cools the body. However, for evaporative cooling to be effective, a high evaporation rate is needed. This is why evaporative coolers are best in areas with dry, arid climates instead of humid ones.

Evaporative coolers use water because it is an exceptional coolant, easily evaporating in most climates. In fact, six water gallons evaporating has the same cooling effect as a standard (3.5 ton-hour) central air conditioner for homes. Aside from being effective at cooling, utilizing water means evaporative coolers do away with harmful synthetic refrigerants, making them safer for you and the environment.

What We Offer

R.A. Biel Plumbing & Heating, Inc. offers service agreements for evaporative cooling system maintenance. In the spring, we will shut down furnaces and start up evaporative coolers to get them ready for summer, cleaning them up, changing pads and checking them for leaks. In the fall, we’ll come out again to get evaporative coolers ready for winter.

We also repair and replace evaporative coolers, as well as convert them into refrigerative air systems, depending on your requirements.
